Holy Assumption of the Virgin Mary Church is a lovely Russian orthodox church that was founded in 1846. The structure itself was completed in 1896 and is the oldest-standing church of its kind in Alaska. Visitors from all over the world have come to visit the church, which has been added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places and is also recognized as a U.S. National Historic Landmark. The church is now a member of the Orthodox Church in America Diocese of Alaska and conducts a vigil service once a week. In addition to the stunning architecture, visitors will also be able to see a rich collection of historic objects and icons.
