The Charleston Museum was the very first museum to be established in America back in 1773. Since then they have had more than 250 years to collect, preserve, interpret and celebrate a vast collection of South Carolina Historic artifacts. The museum houses several permanent collections which help visitors to understand the history and culture of South Carolina, including Charleston’s role in the American Revolution. However, most children will be more interested in exploring the Bunting Natural History Gallery, which is home to many fossils and skeletons. The popular Early Days exhibit boasts an authentic Egyptian mummy and mummy case, while the Kidstory exhibit is filled with fun interactive displays.
