The name of this location translates to 'Red Beach' in English due to the unique pinkish color of the sands here, which are made up of microscopic pieces of a kind of volcanic rock. Playa Roja is located in Paracas and is traditionally one of the best beaches in Peru for people to take photographs due to the unique color of the sand and also to lookout for wildlife. You can see all kinds of animals passing by including dolphins, whales, sea lions, and many different kinds of seabirds. The waters here are protected, however, so swimming and water sports aren't allowed, but the beach has a calm, relaxed atmosphere that will appeal to a lot of people.
