Review:

Modeled after a church in Istanbul that shares its name, the Church of Agia Sofia is a beautiful building that has served as both a church and a mosque since it was constructed in the 8th century.

Although the exterior of the building is not as elaborate as some, the inside more than makes up for it; the dome of the church is decorated with an elaborate 9th-century mosaic depicting the Ascension, and the space is illuminated by twinkling chandeliers filled with candles. Taking photos is not permitted, but visitors are welcome to walk through the church and marvel at its beauty.
