The only Scottish castle to be listed by the World Monuments Fund, Sinclair Castle is comprised of the ruins of both the 15th century Castle Girnigoe and the 17th century Castle Sinclair. Architectural highlights include several remaining pieces of the curtain wall, a gabled tower house, and a secret chamber in the roof of Castle Girnigoe's kitchen. The castle is typically open to the public from May through September, although it is sometimes closed for preservation work. Visitors are advised to wear good walking shoes, as it is approximately half a mile from the parking lot to the castle.
