With 189 rooms, Dunrobin Castle is the largest castle in the northern highlands. The building has been in continuous use since the early 1300s, and over the years it has served as a naval hospital, a boarding school, and the home of the Dukes and Earls of Sutherland. The interior of the castle was badly damaged in a fire in 1915, but it has been restored and redecorated with furnishings from the 17th and 18th centuries. Other points of interest include falconry displays, a garden museum that houses trophy animal heads and archaeological artifacts, and 558 hectares of beautifully landscaped gardens.
