Review:
Vianden, once a refuge for exiled French poet Victor Hugo, is a medieval town tucked along the Our River in the Ardennes Mountains. The charming town is best known for the restored hilltop Vianden Castle and the resting place of Edmund de la Fontaine, Luxembourg’s national poet. Vianden is characterized by narrow lanes, gothic churches, and remnants of ramparts and towers from the once fortified city. On a visit to Vianden Castle, visitors can expect to see the Little Palace, the Great Palace, the Chapel, and exhibitions of ancient weaponry and armored suits, period furniture, portraits, genealogical tables, and archaeological drawings. A chairlift rising from 230 meters to 440 meters provides panoramic views of Our Valley.
