1. Luxembourg City

Luxembourg City is the multicultural capital of Luxembourg, a place steeped in rich history with a contemporary twist. Nestled in the heart of Europe, this picturesque, high-energy city features several artistic treasures, historical heritage sites, and a variety of guided tours and excursions. Some of the prominent fixtures include the regal Grand Ducal Palace, the dramatic and mysterious Bock Casemates, and the futuristic City Skyliner. There are over a dozen tours to choose from in Luxembourg City. The most popular are the majestic City Promenade Tour, the architectural tour of the railway station district, and the City Safari, an excellent choice for families.

2. Bascharage


Bascharage


Bascharage is part of the Kaerjeng municipality, along with Clemency, Linger, Hautcharage, and Fingig. This is the place to be for craft beer. It’s home to Brasseirie Nationale, a family-owned and-operated brewery that is the oldest in Luxembourg. Visitors can tour the brewery and beer museum, then taste Bofferding or Battin beers. Tours of the Beierhaascht microbrewery offer a different experience. Here, besides tours and tastings, Beierhaascht has an in-house butchery, restaurant, and eco-hotel. The three fishponds of Clemency are nearby where visitors can catch trout and local fish. Three walking tours of Bascharage and Clemency offer an overview of the natural area. 3. Beaufort


Beaufort


Beaufort is a small village in the Mullerthal-Luxembourg region known as Little Switzerland. It features a variety of activities for visitors to explore, from nature excursions and sporting activities to art, culture, and shopping opportunities. The town’s most prominent attraction is the ruins of the Chateau Beaufort, a striking five story medieval castle that was once the place of a Roman camp. Beaufort also has a large ice skating rink where visitors can skate, play ice hockey, or ice kart around the rink between October and March. From May until August, the outdoor adventure pool is an ideal way to cool off after hiking through the village’s untamed valleys.

4. Berdorf


Berdorf


Berdorf sits in the heart of the Mullerthal region and features an astounding rock landscape ideal for outdoor enthusiasts who love hiking. The Sure, the valleys of the Black Ernz, and the Aesbach create the over 300 acres of forest area that surround the village, and the Mullerthal Trail crosses through the tiny town. There are over 30 miles of clearly marked walking, hiking, and cycling trails, many of which lead visitors to viewpoints atop ledges at soaring heights providing remarkably picturesque views. Caves, slit marshes, and grottos can be seen as visitors make their ways to iconic rock formations Perecop, Teufelsinsel, Hohllay, and Tour Malakoff, among others.

5. Bettembourg


Bettembourg


Bettembourg municipality actually includes Abweiler, Fennange, Huncherange, and Noertzang too. Of all the family-fun things to do here, the Parc Merveilleux tops the must-do list. It’s Luxembourg’s only amusement park. Kids will love the fairytale forest, labyrinth, giant playground, and animal reserve. The two nature reserves – Beetebuerger Besch and Um Bierg – are great for nature lovers looking to hike or bike. Circular Walk Abweiler offers guided or audio-guided tours of Bettembourg Forest. Terre Rouge is a self-guided bicycle tour for adults and older children, and it allows you to explore forests, red rock canyons, small towns, Tetelbierg archaeological dig, and Fond De Gras Park railway history.

6. Chateau Bourscheid


Chateau Bourscheid


The Chateau Bourscheid is an impressive castle of just under 40,000 square feet originally constructed in the year 1000. The first lord of the castle was Bertram of Bourscheid mentioned in the year 1095. This massive palace is located on a secluded promontory and can only be accessed from the northwest, as it rests just under 500 feet above the River Sure. It is completely surrounded by a grand ring wall equipped with 11 watchtowers. Visitors can choose either a 1-hour, 1.5-hour, or 2-hour tour of these remarkable grounds, learning all about its rich history. As an added bonus, visitors are welcome to hike through the extraordinary woodlands of the Oesling.

7. Diekirch


Diekirch


Diekirch is a small town bordering the River Sure surrounded by picturesque areas, including Seitert, Haardt, Goldknapp, and Herrenberg. Its pedestrian zone features old streets, small passageways, boutique shops, and quaint cafes with a large terrace square at its center, an ideal place to get immersed in the culture and enjoy public concerts throughout the year. History buffs will delight in their old quarter where many prominent ancient homes and historical monuments reside. Among them is the town’s jewel, the St. Laurentius Church, situated on the remains of a significant Roman villa. Two additional highlights are the National Museum of Military History and the National Museum of Historical Vehicles.

8. Differdange


Differdange


Differdange is nestled in the valley of the Haute Chiers, a prominent industrial center known as “Steeltown” due to its grey type steel girders. The city provides visitors with various attractions, including historical highlights like the Cistercian Abbey founded in 1235, the Old Town Hall, the New Town Hall constructed in 1964, and Differdange Castle, which houses Miami University. Gerlache Park is the town’s center, a green oasis featuring the floral clock, the 1896 steel factory, and the Marcel Noppeney Cultural Center. A couple additional points of interest are the historical steam train – Train 1900 – and the Prenzebierg-Giele Botter nature reserve, an old open cast iron ore mining area.

9. Dudelange


Dudelange


Dudelange is Luxembourg’s fourth largest city, previously a prominent mining and steel town, now featuring an influential cultural landscape with a modern infrastructure. It is known for being one of the most diverse cities in the country with several natural, cultural, and historical attractions as well as vibrant events and festivals. Haard, the largest nature reserve, is located here showcasing rare plant and animal species, including orchids, butterflies, birds, bats, reptiles, and amphibians. Visitors can also explore the reconstructed St. Martin’s Church, Mount St. John, and the adventure park Le’h’ Park Dudelange. The RedRock Mountainbike Trails, skate park, Schmelz, and outdoor pool are highlights for young adults.

10. Echternach


Echternach


Echternach is the oldest town in Luxembourg and one of Europe’s earliest cultural centers. This medieval city is most notably known for its monumental ancient architecture such as the Roman Villa, the Roman Basilica, the Peter and Paul Parish Church, and the Rococo Pavilion. It is also a natural oasis nestled within the beautiful Mullerthal Region, featuring several amazing hiking opportunities that include the Mullerthal Trail and Gorge des Loups (the wolves’ canyon). Additional outdoor activities such as biking along the River Sure, paddling excursions on the lake, and the outdoor park Adventure Island offer plenty of family fun. Various museums, dancing processionals, guided tours, and music festivals add to the city’s attractions.
