New River Trail State Park offers plenty to do during the day, such as horseback riding, fishing, biking, and hiking, however, numerous outdoor enthusiasts choose to stay overnight in the campground for an even longer outdoor adventure near Max Meadows, Virginia.


All along the trail are primitive sites, but for campsites with a bit more comfort to them, visitors should consider camping in the Millrace and Cliffview campsites, which include picnic tables, lantern posts, and fire pits. Visitors can also rent bikes and canoes. The Baker Island Double Shoals campsites are designed for more rugged camping, focusing on the natural landscape.
