Review & FAQ:

The Nativity of Christ Cathedral, or Nativity Cathedral for short, was designed during a time when Latvia was a part of the Russian Empire. It is actually the largest Orthodox cathedral built with the blessing of the Russian Tsar. Visitors can explore the cathedral, renowned for its religious icons painted by famous Russian war artist Vasily Vasilyevich Vereshchagin. The cathedral has a rich history and at one point was turned into a Lutheran church. During the USSR occupation the cathedral building was converted to a planetarium and wasn’t restored as a cathedral until Latvia’s independence in 1991.
