Review & FAQ:
The Museum of the History of Riga and Navigation is one of the oldest museums in Europe. It started with Dr. Nikolaus von Himsel’s private collection in 1773. Upon his death, his mother handed over his collection to the city of Riga, and the Town Council then formed the museum. Today, the museum houses over 500,000 objects and 80 collections, and it has three branches. Visitors will come across an extensive collection of paintings, furniture, medals, porcelain, and other objects. One of the most recent acquisitions is a collection of unique 13th century coins that were donated.
