Review:
The Royal Palace is located at one end of Karl Johans gate, Oslo’s main street, right in the heart of the city. The beautiful Neo-Classical building with stuccoed brick exterior was built for King Carl Johan, who died before it was finished in 1849.
The Palace is the King and Queen’s residence and the place where the Monarchy does its daily work and conducts its business. In the Palace, the King heads the Council of State, has official dinners, and grants audiences. It is also the place where foreign heads of state stay when visiting Oslo. There are guided tours of the Royal Palace available in the summer.
