Known for both its beauty and its historical significance, the Potomac River forms part of the border between Maryland and Washington. The river runs directly through Washington, and its location in a part of the country with such historical importance has led to it being commonly known as "the Nation's River."

There are many historical sights along the river, but one of the most important is Mount Vernon, the former home of President George Washington. The Potomac river is approximately 405 miles long in total, and there are a number of companies that offer boat tours and cruises. Map
