The Royal Mews provides road transport for members of the British Royal Family by both horse-drawn carriage and motor car. Originally located at Charing Cross, and at Buckingham Palace since the 1820s, the mews is an essential branch of the Lord Chamberlain's Office and are open to the public for most of the year. The Royal Mews is home to world-class stables where training of the Cleveland Bays and Windsor Grey horses that pull the royal carriages, takes place. The Royal Mews is also responsible for housing and maintaining state vehicles and the carriages used for royal and state occasions, roughly 50 times a year. The most dazzling of all coaches is the Gold State Coach, which has been used at every coronation since that of George IV in 1821 and the Diamond Jubilee State Coach, built for The Queen's Diamond Jubilee.
