The Louisiana (named after the wives of the original owner of the country house) is one of Europe’s foremost museums of modern art and has been an inspiration to the art world since its inception in 1958. The museum is housed in an unpretentious building in the Danish modernist style, which was designed to blend seamlessly with its natural surroundings and includes a beautiful sculpture garden. The original vision of the creator of the museum was to showcase only Danish Art, but over the years the emphasis has changed to international art and the present distinguished art collection comprises over 3,500 paintings, sculptures, photos, and installations representing artists from all over the world. The collection is spread out over several galleries and the museum also hosts a full calendar of visiting exhibitions. You will find the Louisiana in Humlebaek, about 40km north of Copenhagen.
