Review & Frequenly Asked Questions:
Mexico City was once Tenochtitlán, the Aztec capital of Mexico, and Templo Mayor was its most significant temple. The Templo Mayor Museum was built and opened to the public in 1987 as a place to display the 7,000 objects recovered from the archaeological excavation of Templo Mayor. The museum is at the site of the excavation and is included in the general admission. Visitors will see a model of Tenochtitlán along with the recovered artifacts. The excavation is ongoing and surprising finds are still being uncovered, like a tower of human skulls found in 2017. The museum primarily houses objects from the initial 1978-82 dig.
