Museo de Arte Popular is dedicated to the preservation of Mexican folk art and handcrafts. The museum is housed in a 1927 repurposed firehouse in Centro Historico, Mexico City’s historic district. Considered a major collection of Mexican folk art, the museum is divided into five permanent themed exhibition halls: Mexican art, Mexican crafts, everyday things, religious items, and fantasy/magic things. There is also a temporary exhibit hall that has featured past collections like Mud, Paper, Scissors. The museum provides children’s craft workshops on weekends. Visitors will also appreciate the museum gift shop, which offers traditional to contemporary artisan products from across Mexico.
