The Piazza San Marco (St. Mark’s Square) lies before the stunning Basilica di San Marco, the Palazzo Ducale (Doge’s Palace) and the Campanile in what is undoubtedly the most visited tourist attraction in Venice.
Since the very early days in Venice, this palazzo has been at the center of everyday life, once home to a market and also the center of religious life. Today it is home to a never-ending parade of tourists and a ridiculous number of pigeons.
This is where every visitor comes to see and be seen, to fall in love with Venice and to be overwhelmed by so much grandeur in a relatively small area of the city.
