The Church of St. Zachary, the father of John the Baptist, is another of Venice’s outstanding historic churches which deserves a place on your to-do list.
Located just 3 minutes walk from the Bridge of Sighs, the Church you see before you was built in the late 15th century by Codussi and is widely considered to be a masterful example of the Italian Renaissance style.
The current building stands on the site on two earlier churches, the facades of which can still be seen, affording architecture scholars the opportunity of tracing the transition from late Gothic to Renaissance styles. Like several other churches in Venice the interior is richly embellished with priceless paintings including Bellini’s “Virgin and Child with 4 Saints”.
