Conveniently located in downtown Savannah, the Georgia State Railroad Museum is a fascinating destination with plenty of family-friendly activities. Visitors are welcome to walk through the grounds and look at the historic locomotives on their own, but guided tours are included in the price of admission if you'd like a more in-depth explanation of the site's significance. A short train ride is included with admission as well, and steam or diesel locomotive rides are sometimes available for an additional fee. There are also several children's play areas, including the kid-friendly Baggage Car, which is filled with toy train tables and other games.
