Zuni Cafe is a Hayes Valley staple for Mediterranean cuisine, originally founded in 1979 by proprietor Billy West to pay homage to the Zuni indigenous people of the American Southwest.
Today, the restaurant is co-owned by chefs Judy Rodgers and Gilbert Pilgram and has been the recipient of the prestigious James Beard Award, one of the highest honors bestowed upon American restaurants.
The laid-back restaurant is a favorite among tourists and locals alike, offering a diverse menu of fare crafted from locally-sourced ingredients, including famous dishes such as the restaurant's brick-oven chicken for two. Clever cocktails are served at lunch and dinner from the restaurant's zinc bar, with late-night drink service available after the restaurant's kitchen closes.
