Situated on the western edge of Wisconsin is the Black River State Forest . The forest was founded in 1957 and is known for its massive elk population. Black River State Forest is home to numerous natural wonders which include towering geological formations created during the Ice Age. Because of its vast amount of plants, the state forest is a favorite hiding spot for the endangered Karner blue butterfly. Some activities to do while at the park include ATVing, hiking, camping, biking, picnicking, and hunting.
