Acropolis of Lindos is an ancient citadel resting high on a cliff above the village of Lindos with breathtaking views over the Aegean Sea.
Accessed by a short, steep-stepped footpath that climbs up the 380-foot cliff, the fortress dates back to the 6th century BC and is enclosed by battlements constructed by the Knights of St John. Inside the bastille are the ancient remains of a magnificent 20-columned Hellenistic stoa and a temple dedicated to the goddess Athena Lindia. Other impressive features include the Byzantine chapel of Saint John, the Temple of Athena on the southwest side of the hill, and the unrivaled sea views from the battlement walls.
