Tucked away in the hills of northeastern Switzerland, St. Gallen is a town that evolved from a hermitage established here in the 7th century. The biggest tourist attraction here is the Abbey of St. Gallen, a gorgeous Baroque cathedral that was named a UNESCO world heritage site in 1983. The heart of the abbey is its famous library, which boasts a Rococo hall and a collection of approximately 170,000 documents, some of which date as far back as the 9th century. Aside from the abbey, the city's attractions include a Textile Museum, a botanical garden, and a nature museum. St. Gallen
