Switzerland is full of beautiful Baroque towns, but it's hard to find one that compares to the grandeur of Solothurn. This charming town was home to the French king’s ambassador for more than two and a half centuries, and it's a wonderful blend of French, German, and Italian culture and architecture. Don't miss the St. Urs Cathedral, the Waldegg Castle, or the Verena Gorge Hermitage just outside town. The city is a great place to visit no matter what the time of year, but it's at its best during the Christmas season, when a delightful market is held in the city's oldest square. Solothurn
