Heckscher State Park is located on the shore of the Great South Bay at East Islip in Suffolk County. The 1,657-acre park includes the former 19th-century estates of George C. Taylor and J. Neal Plum. The park officially opened in February 1929. It includes a beach pavilions with picnic tables and benches, a kids’ playground, athletic fields and a disc golf course. The park is a popular destination for hiking, biking, fishing, cross-country skiing and boating. It also includes the Heckscher Forest, a disc golf course established in the summer of 2014. The park used to have a campground with tent and trailer sites and a Olympic-sized swimming pool, but they are now closed.
