Need a peaceful New England getaway steeped in charm and mountain scenery? I always say—head to Tamworth! I’ve fallen for this little town nestled between the White Mountains and the Lakes Region. If you’re anything like me, you’ll love the mix of outdoor adventures, rich history, and artsy local flavor. Whether you’re hiking through the woods, sampling local spirits, or just wandering the village streets, I think you’ll find Tamworth to be the kind of idyllic retreat that stays with you.

Tamworth, NH Highlights:

  • When you’re feeling adventurous, I recommend hiking White Lake State Park or Mount Chocorua. I’ve done both, and the lake views and forest trails are unforgettable—especially Mount Chocorua’s summit. It’s one of New Hampshire’s most scenic spots, hands down.
  • If you’re curious about history, you’ve got to visit the Remick Country Doctor Museum & Farm. I learned so much about rural medicine and old-fashioned farm life there. You’ll get to see it all come to life in this living history gem.
  • Want to shop local? I always stop at The Other Store and the Tamworth Farmers Market. You’ll find handmade crafts, gifts, and the kind of fresh produce that makes you want to cook a big country meal.
  • Planning a couple’s getaway? You’ve got to try a tasting at Tamworth Distilling. I loved the cozy, rustic setting and their creative small-batch spirits. You’ll find it just a few steps from the village green—it’s a treat.
  • Bringing the family? White Lake State Park is my go-to for summer fun. I’ve seen kids splash around in the crystal-clear water while parents picnic and paddle. You’ll find sandy beaches, clean facilities, and plenty of space to relax.

Best Time to Visit Tamworth, NH

I usually tell people to visit between May and October. That’s when you’ll get the best of Tamworth—sunny lake days, hiking weather, and those famous fall colors. I’ve visited in winter too, and while it’s quieter, you’ll find nearby ski slopes and snowshoe trails that make it well worth the trip if you’re up for some cold-weather charm.

How to Get to Tamworth, NH

  • If you’re driving in: I usually take NH-25 or NH-113—Tamworth’s about 2 hours from Boston and just an hour from Concord. You’ll love the scenic roads, especially in fall.
  • Flying instead? I’ve used both Portland International Jetport (PWM) and Manchester-Boston Regional Airport—they’re each around 1.5 hours away by car.
  • By Bus: There’s limited service, so I always recommend driving if you can. It just makes getting around the area way easier.

Where to Stay in Tamworth, NH

  • The Farmstand B&B: I stayed here once and still think about the river views and homemade breakfasts. It’s full of rustic charm and warm hospitality—you’ll feel right at home.
  • Mount Whittier Motel: If you want something clean and affordable near the lakes and trai
