The Petrified Forest National Park in north-eastern Arizona is home to a landscape like none other in the country. The park is famous for being home to masses of Triassic aged rocks, which were deposited there by enormous rivers, more than 200 million years ago. It is believed that the forest became petrified after a massive volcanic eruption. Today visitors can take a scenic drive through the other-worldly landscape, stopping at the few viewpoints to take some very unique photographs. There are also some hiking trails which lead to an ancient village and some petrogylphs and you can attend a Ranger talk to learn more.
