Located between the Sangre de Cristo Mountains and the Glorieta Mesa, the Pecos National Historic Park marks a cultural and historic crossroads which has been in use for thousands of years. At first it was home to hunter/gatherers, later to early settlers and more recently, the famous Santa Fe Trail passed through the park. Visitors to the area can get a good overview of what to expect at the E.E. Vogelson Visitor’s Center. Activities in the park include guided historic and cultural tours, hiking, fishing on the Pecos River and regular ranger-led programs. Camping is not allowed inside the park but there are campsites close by.
