The Buck Island National Wildlife Refuge consists of 45 acres of land that was established in 1969. The location played an important role as it housed many species of migratory birds throughout the year. Visitors could explore the refuge on their own, but since there are no visitor services, it might be best to go with a local tour company.

That way visitors can see all the different things the land offers such as the Antillean skink, which is a reptile endemic to the Puerto Rico bank, tons of sea turtles at Turtle Cove, and a Danish lighthouse that was established in 1916. Visitors will enjoy going on a chartered boat trip on the surrounding waters so that they can enjoy the spectacular reefs; the location is highly popular with divers, boaters, and snorkelers.
