Situated on more than 1,800 acres, San Diego Zoo Safari Park is 35 minutes north of the city’s downtown. This is no ordinary zoo with eight safaris to choose from. All experiences start from Safari Base Camp at the park’s entrance. From there, visitors can discover 13 animal habitats from Elephant Valley to Asian Savannah to African Plains to Butterfly Jungle. It’s as close to experiencing the real environment as one can get without being there. Different ways to explore the park are by Segway, on foot, via a free African tram, zip-line, cart, and caravan. Some are free, some are paid.
