San Diego Natural History Museum is situated in Balboa Park (video), the country’s biggest urban cultural park. Its signature permanent exhibition is Fossil Mysteries. This interactive, kid-friendly exhibition ponders big questions in ecology, evolution, extinction, and Earth processes. Visitors learn about the evolution of prehistoric animals and the identification of microfossils via dioramas, models, murals, and fossils. Other permanent exhibitions include Skulls with more than 200 skulls from across the globe. Water: A California Story is another fascinating and important exhibition. There are also numerous temporary exhibitions, and a vast Biodiversity Research Center of the Californias.
