Self-described as “not your typical botanical garden,” Sonoma Botanical Garden features wild Asian woodlands. It’s among the largest wild-sourced Asian plant collections in the world. Situated in an abandoned quarry, the garden is a testament to big dreams. This green oasis stands out against ashy, barren hills decimated in a 2017 fire that, thankfully, didn’t touch the garden. Visitors can enjoy the colors, patterns, and textures of the Woodland Garden. Jane’s garden, named for the founder, is an English-style garden of Asian species with blossoming cherry trees, gazebos, arbors, mature oak trees, and a fountain. There is also the amazing Chinese Heritage Rose Garden, and Stewartia Grove – a serene garden of flowering trees.
