The ancient small town of Perast is located in the Bay of Boka Kotorska, just a few miles northwest of the city of Kotor. Throughout the ages the town has been occupied by just about every conqueror in Europe including the Byzantine Empire, the Venetian, Hungarian, French, and Austrian empires, all of which left behind examples of their particular architecture and culture. The town is home to many ancient churches and more than a handful of former palaces that will be of interest to architecture enthusiasts. You can also take a scenic cruise on the picturesque bay to visit Our Lady of the Rocks, an historic old church built on an entirely man-made island.
