You may well find that Mamula Island (aka The Prison Island) looks vaguely familiar, and chances are that you will have seen it before – the fortified island has been used as the backdrop for several thriller/horror movies. The island was used as a Prisoner of War camp during both World Wars, when it was notorious for torture and cruelty to prisoners. Today you can visit the island on an organized tour by water taxi from Tivat, Porto Montenegro. Several tour options are available, which will give you the chance to explore the island and the surviving ruins, visit some fascinating WWII submarine caves located along the coastline (with the option to try cliff jumping), and lastly visit the famous Blue Caves where you can snorkel or swim.
