The Cartoixa de Valldemossa (Carthusian Monastery Valldemossa) , known as the Carthusian Monastery of Valldemossa or Valldemossa Charterhouse is a monumental complex originally erected as a royal palace of the Majorcan dynasty in 1309 and ceded to the Carthusian monks in 1399. The once former royal residence and Royal Charterhouse of the king Sancho of Majorca is located in the Sierra de Tramuntana near Palma and features several buildings from different periods, including an 18th-century neoclassical church, an old pharmacy used by the Carthusians, a former library, and beautifully manicured gardens. The cells of the Cartuja house several art and heritage collections of exceptional value, such as those relating to the legacy of the Carthusians and their lifestyle.
