Review:

Built in 1300, Hvalsey Church is thought to be one of the first Christian churches built in North America. The ruins of this ancient church overlook the local fjord and visitors can hike down a grassy hillside to reach them. The stones of the church are built out of granite fieldstones which are known for their extremely heavy weight. You’ll notice that a few of these stones were fastened in an arch shape as a way to create windows. Nearby, you’ll also be able to see an old farmstead that was once filled with numerous rooms, barns, and a magnificent banquet hall. You might also catch a glimpse of the graveyard that Hvalsey Church was built over.
