Established by the Romans in 16 B.C., Trier is the oldest city in Germany, and it has more evidence of Roman times than anywhere else in the country. The Archaeological Museum is the best place to see Roman artifacts that have been excavated in the area, but you should also visit sites like the Cathedral of Trier, the Imperial Baths, and impressive Porta Nigra gate. There are a handful of more modern attractions as well, including the Karl Marx House, The House of the Three Magi, and the local winery stands selling their wares in the Hauptmarkt square. Trier
