Sitting at the confluence of the Moselle and Rhine rivers, Koblenz is a beautiful waterfront city with a lot to offer. The city's strategic location made it an important military stronghold during Roman times, but these days it's a much gentler place, and it's better known for its flowers and parks than for its military value. However, the top attraction is still the historic Ehrenbreitstein Fortress, which can be reached by taking a scenic cable car ride across the river. While you're there, don't miss the Landesmuseum, which has some excellent exhibits on the area's history. Koblenz
