Only half an hour outside of Frankfurt, Darmstadt is an easy day trip, and it's particularly worthwhile if you're a fan of history and architecture. The city is particularly known for its many beautiful Art Nouveau buildings, many of which can be found in the Mathildenhöhe neighborhood, including the iconic Wedding Tower. There are also some fascinating museums to explore, particularly the Hessisches Landesmuseum Darmstadt, which has an astonishing collection of fossils that have been found in the area.
