Take a trip to the vaulted chambers of the massive St. John’s Fortress, right on the Old Harbor, and sail right into the rich and abundant maritime history of the Dubrovnik Republic. Sailing and ship building were vital components to the growth of the republic as a whole. As such, it’s no surprise that Dubrovnik’s identity is deeply rooted in its maritime culture. One of the city’s most treasured and visited museum, the Maritime Museum showcases display after display of fine galleons that were once built in the city. The museum even showcases ship blue prints used to make said vessels at their archive. In addition to these items, the museum features artifacts used on vessels old and new, while also exhibiting small replicas of old ships, which are just enough to give you a taste of how magnificent the sea faring vehicles must have been.
