Located at Placa, Dubrovnik’s main street, the Franciscan Monastery is a sizeable complex that is owned and maintained by the Order of Friars Minor. Along with the monastery, the compound is home to a library, a church, and a pharmacy, and is known for being one of the earliest monasteries built in the 13th century. Visitors to the Franciscan Monastery are welcome to stroll through the halls and the different structures to get a feel of what monastery life was like in the 13th and 14th century, and are also welcome to visit the small museum located within its walls. At the museum, guests can see a modest collection of liturgical relics such as paintings and chalices, and even old pharmaceutical items such as ancient medical books and laboratory gear.
