The massive Slavin war monument can be seen throughout a large portion of Slovakia’s capital city. Situated on top of a hill that overlooks the castle, the memorial was built in commemoration of the city’s liberation in April of 1945 by the Red Army. Unveiled to the public in 1960, Slavín is located in the city’s upmarket quarter above embassies and mansions. The main draw for visitors is the amazing panoramic views the site provides of the city of Bratislava below. The surrounding area is also a great spot for a leisurely walk. In front of the monument are six mass graves.
