The Dallas Zoo is a 106-acre animal sanctuary that is home to over 2,000 animals representing 406 species. Located three miles south of downtown Dallas, the zoo was established in 1888 and is the oldest and largest zoological park in the Lone Star State. The zoo has two central regions, namely the Wilds of Africa and ZooNorth, which is the original and oldest section of the zoo. Visitors can navigate the areas of the park on self-guided or guided tours and enjoy a range of nature-related educational programs, and special events. The zoo not only houses and protects a variety of species but also takes part in several conservation and preservation programs for endangered species.
