Waterfront Park is an eight-acre park along the Cooper River in Charleston, South Carolina. The park received the 2007 Landmark Award from the American Society of Landscape Architects and the National Trust for Historic Preservation. Open in 1990, it is one of city’s most popular parks, with spectacular views of the Charleston Harbor. It offers manicured gardens, fountains, shady walking paths, and plenty of benches to enjoy the surrounding nature in pleasant shade. The park was designed by Stuart O. Dawson of Sasaki Associates. It is divided into distinct areas that combine riverfront and inland walking paths, all tied together by a magnificent fountain topped with a statue of a Palmetto tree. Stately palmetto trees create shaded barrier only yards away from the edge of the water.
