The Theater District is the heart of Manhattan's Midtown West neighborhood, best known as the home of iconic pedestrian hub Times Square, referred to as the "Crossroads of the World" for its neon-illuminated billboards and status as one of the world's top tourist destinations. It is located between Sixth and Eight Avenues and 40th and 54th Streets, known around the world for its cultural and tourist attractions. The district is home to the majority of the city's Broadway theaters, which present world-class original and revival musicals and plays six nights a week. A large number of recording and television studios and theatrical agencies also call the neighborhood home, along with major family-friendly attractions such as Madame Tussaud's New York and a branch of the popular Ripley's Believe it or Not! Odditorium. Popular chain restaurants and retail stores abound, including Hershey's Chocolate World, Sephora, Hard Rock Cafe, and Planet Hollywood. The district is also famed for its annual New Year's Eve ball drop, the most famous New Year's Eve celebration in the world.
