Located in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains in Tishomingo County, Tishomingo State Park is a public recreation area that is steeped in history and scenic beauty. Named after the leader of the Chickasaw nation, Chief Tishomingo, whose tribe inhabited the park as early as 7000 B. C., Tishomingo State Park boasts spectacular natural landscapes of massive rock formations and boulders blanketed in moss, rolling hillsides covered in colorful wildflowers, and fern-filled crevices. A significant feature of the park is Bear Creek Canyon, which has awe-inspiring sandstone outcroppings, and activities in the park include hiking, mountain biking, rock climbing, picnicking, bird-watching, boating, and seasonal swimming.
