Mississippi

Things to Do in Gulfport, Mississippi
Plan a weekend trip to Oxford, home to the University of Mississippi, great attractions and restaurants.
America's 20th state is best known for its intriguing Civil War history, its booming agribusiness economy, and its title as the birthplace of blues music.
If you’re drawn to deep history and culture, you’ll want to explore Mississippi. I always think of it as the heart of the South—and the birthplace of the Blues. You can really feel the music and stories in the air.
I recommend you follow the Blues and Country Music Trails—they’re packed with music history. You’ll want to stop at the B.B. King Museum and Elvis’ birthplace; I still think about those visits often.
If you love old architecture like I do, you’ve got to see the antebellum homes. I always suggest Longwood, Rosalie, and Stanton Hall—they’re stunning and full of stories.
You should also visit Vicksburg National Military Park and the USS Cairo Museum. I found those sites powerful and moving—you really feel the weight of Civil War history there.
