Located at the corner of Clinton Street and Iowa Avenue on the University of Iowa Pentacrest in downtown Iowa City, the Old Capitol Museum, also known as the Old Mississippi State Capitol, once served as the Mississippi statehouse from 1839 until 1903. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Old Capitol Museum boasts a Greek revival architectural design, and beautiful interiors with limestone floors and a rotunda dome that towers 94 feet above the ground. Visitors can browse a collection of exhibits that depict life in the 1830s in Mississippi, along with Native American history, and impact the cotton industry has on the culture of the state.
