Things to Do in Santa Monica, California
Venice Beach is famous the world over for being the playground by the sea for Southern Californians.
Children's museums and theaters abound, along with a number of public parks and historical attractions sure to please visitors ages three to 93.
Why do I think Los Angeles is an exciting place for you to visit?
If you ask me, LA is one of those cities where you never run out of things to do. You can spend a morning at the beach, then dive into the magic of movie-making by afternoon. I always love how you can go from a thrilling theme park to a cozy dinner spot run by a celebrity chef—all in one day. Whether you're into shopping, culture, or just soaking in the sun, you’ll find something you love here.
What do I recommend you try at Universal Studios Hollywood?
If you’re in LA, I say don’t miss Universal Studios Hollywood. I had such a blast on the rides—and I think you will too. One of my favorite spots is the Adventures of Curious George. If you’ve got kids, or even if you're a kid at heart, you’ll love the huge rocket ship, splash zones, and the foam-ball play area. You’ll get soaked, laugh a lot, and probably not want to leave.
Why should you check out Beverly Hills?
Whenever I’m in the mood to feel a little fancy, I head to Beverly Hills. You’ll drive past mansions and picture-perfect lawns that make you feel like you’re in a movie. I like to grab lunch at a sidewalk café, and you should definitely make time to stroll Rodeo Drive. Even if you’re just window-shopping, it’s a glam experience you won’t forget.
Why do I always recommend the California Science Center for families?
If you’re traveling with kids—or just love hands-on learning—I think you’ll really enjoy the California Science Center. I was impressed that general admission is free. You can spend hours there without spending a dime, though I’d say it’s worth it to pay for the extras. I caught a show at the IMAX theater there, and trust me, the seven-story screen totally pulls you in. You’ve got to see it to believe it.
